and is rarely seen outside of that area.

Canadian Customs Regional Patches
This patch, and the one below, were originally designed in Toronto about 12-15
years ago. There were a number of this type of patch designed for each of the
regions by members of the Interdiction and Intelligence Division.
|
 |
Canadian Customs Toronto
Regional patch
From the information given to me, there were patches similar to this produced for
the following regions: Atlantic; Quebec; Montreal; Ottawa; Toronto; Hamilton;
South-western Ontario; Winnipeg; Saskatchewan; Alberta and Pacific (inc. British Colombia and The Yukon)
|
 |
Canadian Customs Drug Dog Handler -
Version 1
This patch started off as an unofficial patch which won gradual acceptance and was adopted
as the variation seen below. From what I have been told, some officers still wear this
patch in the western provinces.
|
 |
Canadian Customs Drug Dog Handler
- Version 2
Current issue patch. Has both English and French on it, reflecting the Canadian bilingual
laws.
|
 |
Canadian Customs Drug Dog Handler
- Version 3
Prototype patch currently under development.

out as unofficial issue, has since been adopted as an official patch.

Worn in the Toronto Region by Investigations and by Intelligence and
Contraband. This is copy of the Cap badge and is hidden in a Raid Jacket, concealed
in the right breast pocket. The jacket in question has numerous identification
patches in hidden pockets, used by the Revenue Canada Investigations Division and
the current Intelligence and Contraband Division.

|
 |
Canada Customs Badge Patch
This is an older style badge patch in the exact same design as a Canadian Customs
breast badge. Commonly would have the individual officers number or port code
embroidered into the space underneath Customs - Excise.
|
 |
Canadian Customs Badge Patch
This is as close as I can get to obtaining a Canadian Customs Badge, a
Canadian Customs Badge Patch! Not to sure of the origin, but, hey,
beggars cannot be choosers where these sort of items are concerned.
|
 |
Trial Customs Insignia -
Version 1
This patch design has been submitted to the Canadian authorities as a possible
alternative to the current issue patch. How will it go? Only time will tell.
News to hand - senior Canadian Customs managers have rejected this design because it does
not conform to federal requirements for the Canadian flag to appear over the letter
"a" in Canada at the bottom of the patch.
|
 |
Trial Customs Insignia -
Version 2
Similar version to the above patch, however also rejected for the following patches.
|
 |

Vancouver International Mail Centre - "Seizing the Dragon"
The 'Dragon' patch was designed for use by the Vancouver Customs Mail Centre
Enforcement
Unit and is their first ever specialty patch. Apparently they have had various hat
patches over time but this the first true patch. It was designed to be given to other law
enforcement agencies who visit the facility and to the staff who work in the Enforcement
Unit. The 'Seizing the Dragon' came from the term 'Chasing the Dragon' which heroin user
use when they are getting high. The main narcotic seized at the mail centre is heroin -
they are 'seizing the dragon. The Mylar triangle represents the golden triangle as most of
the narcotics intercepted come from that region. To satisfy the bilingual issue a limited
run of the French version was produced.

Canada Customs Ski Patrol
This is probably an unofficial patch worn on the snowmobile suits of the
Flexible Response Teams who do patrol/monitoring of the snowmobile trails
adjacent to the U.S. / Canada border. There are a number of trails which
run from Canada into the U.S. There are no ports of entry there just
telephone reporting stations so these teams monitor the trails to make
sure people are reporting.
There are a number of such teams in N.W. Ontario (in around the N.W.
Angle, Fort Frances, T. Bay and Sault Ste. Marie). These teams started
over 20 years ago and were then know as the Mobile Surveillance Units.
This patch is not from Manitoba, it might possibly be from North western
Ontario, possibly Fort Frances District, Thunder Bay District or maybe
even Sault Ste Marie, Ontario
Further information on this patch -
produced in Woodstock and only 100 were made, with the staff of the
section being given one for their snowsuit and one spare - 20 patches were
sent to Ottawa, the Canpass program and major projects and design.
